Grâce au Forum des Images (Paris, France), nous avons pu revoir pendant deux jours les films primés lors du 51ème Festival international du film d’animation d’Annecy. Voici donc nos impressions sur les films courts primés.

Thanks to Forum des Images (Paris, France), we could see for two days the awarded films of the 51st International Animated Film Festival. Here are our impressions of the award-winning short films.

– Avec troix prix (Prix Jean-Luc Xiberras de la première oeuvre pour “Świteź, la Cité perdue”, Prix du jury junior pour un court métrage pour “Paths Of Hate” et Prix Sacem de la musique originale pour “Maska”), la sélection polonaise a été extrêmement sombre ;
– Prix du Public pour le “Big Bang Big Boom” (2010) en stop motion de l’artiste italien Blu où ses dessins toujours aussi décalés interagissent maintenant avec le réel et se déplacent sur d’autres surfaces que le béton (ici, le sable) ;
– le toujours aussi jouissif “Pixels” (2009) du français Patrick Jean, Cristal d’Annecy (le prix du meilleur court métrage d’animation) ;
– les idées lumineuses de l’argentin Juan Pablo Zaramella pour “Luminaris” (2011), Prix du Public ;
– le film d’étudiant “Plato” (2010) du français Léonard Cohen sympa, absurde et Prix du jury junior film de fin d’études ;
– la décevante adaptation en série 3D “Le Petit Nicolas” d’Arnaud Bouron (Prix spécial pour une série TV) où l’on aurait préféré retrouver les dessins en noir et blanc de Jean-Jacques Sempé à ce graphisme 3D en couleurs ;
– le très amusant Prix du film publicitaire ou promotionnel, “Royaume du Gnagnagna” (2010) de Olivier Jeannel pour Canal J, avec son hilarante réplique finale (“Hé, prince, vas-y, file-moi ton 06 !”) ;
– le dessin animé allemand 3D très sympa “La peinture de la princesse” (2010) de Klaus Morschheuser et Johannes Weiland (Prix spécial TV) ;
– le passionnant Prix du film éducatif, scientifique ou d’entreprise de Denis Van Waerebeke, “Comment nourrir tout le monde ?” (2009) ;

– With troix awards (Jean-Luc Xiberras Awards for first film for “Świteź, la Cité perdue”, Junior Jury Award for a short film for “Paths Of Hate” and SACEM Award for original music for “Maska”), the Polish selection was extremely dark ;
– Audience Award for the “Big Bang Big Boom” (2010) in stop motion by the Italian artist Blu, where his strange drawings now interact with reality and move on surfaces other than concrete (here, the sand) ;
– The still enjoyable “Pixels” (2009) by French Jean Patrick, The Annecy Cristal (the award for best animated short film);
– The bright ideas of the Argentine Juan Pablo Zaramella for “Luminaries” (2011), Audience Award ;
– The student film “Plato” (2010) by French Léonard Cohen funny, absurd and Junior Jury Award for a short film ;
– The disappointing adaptation 3D series “Le Petit Nicolas” by Arnaud Bouron (Special Award for a TV series) where we would have preferred to find again the black and white drawings of Jean-Jacques Sempé to these 3D color graphics ;
– The funny Advertising or promotional film Award, “Royaume du Gnagnagna” (2010) by Olivier Jeannel for Canal J, with his hilarious final reply (“Hey, Prince, come on, give me your mobile phone number!”) ;
– The very nice German 3D cartoon “Das Bild der Prinzessin” (2010) by Klaus Johannes Weiland and Morschheuser (Award for best TV special) ;
– The interessant Educational, scientific or industrial Award of Denis Van Waerebeke, “Comment nourrir tout le monde ?” (2009) ;
– The interesting mix of 2D and 3D animation for characters and pictures for sets in the animated series “The Amazing World of Gumball” (2010) by Mic Graves et Ben Bocquelet (The Cristal for best TV production).

Because of the Sales, the weather, the Festival of Cinema and a show between two famous retired French table tennis players (Jean-Philippe Gatien and Patrick Chila), the event has not been as successful as anticipated with the audience, but we hope that the Forum des Images will renew this experience next year.
