Death during the night of August 30, 2010 of the talented French director Alain Corneau who will be buried at Père Lachaise (Paris, France) this Saturday, September 4.

Alain Corneau was born in August 7, 1943 at Meung-sur-Loire (Loiret, France). After studying at the Institute for Advanced Film Studies (IDHEC), which became FEMIS since, in editing and direction department, he starts learning by assisting directors such as Roger Corman (“Target: Harry”, 1969), Costa Gravas (“The Confession”, 1970), Marcel Camus (“A Savage Summer” and “Atlantic Wall”, 1970), Nadine Trintignant (“It Only Happens to Others”, 1971) and Semprún (“Les deux mémoires “, 1974).

He will then face its first successes with film noir. This will be at first “Police Python 357” (1976) with Yves Montand, François Perier and Simone Signoret (1977 César for Best Editing) before the beautiful and dark “Série noire” (1979) with Patrick Dewaere, Myriam Boyer, Marie Trintignant and Bernard Blier. And in a career by jerks and jumps, Alain Corneau will sign three successful films in different genres:

  • The adventure film “Fort Saganne” (1984) is the largest national budget of the time with Gérard Depardieu, Philippe Noiret, Catherine Deneuve and Sophie Marceau ;
  • The historical drama “Tous les matins du monde” (1991) was a surprising critical and public acclaim on the theme of Baroque music and painting with Jean-Pierre Marielle and Gérard Depardieu (1992 César Awards for Best Film, Best Director, Best Actress in a Supporting Role, Best Music, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design and Best Sound ; 1991 Louis-Delluc Prize);
  • The comedy drama “Fear and Trembling” (2003) is the successful adaptation of the eponymous novel by Amélie Nothomb with Sylvie Testud in the title role (2004 Cesar for Best Actress).

Finally, before going forever, Alain Corneau will return to his first love, film noir, making two rather disappointing films:

  • “The Second Wind” (2007), a remake of the eponymous film by Jean-Pierre Melville, with Daniel Auteuil, Monica Bellucci, Michel Blanc and Jacques Dutronc ;
  • “Crime of Love” (2010) with Ludivine Sagnier and Kristin Scott Thomas.
